“In me everything is already flowing’’— ‘Luce Irigaray
From A to B, is a three channel video essay exploring the fluidity of gender as a process of change.
Three distinct languages are interlaced together to describe the multifaceted process of fluctuation: the rational and scientific wording of quantum physics, poetic passages from Virginia Wolf's Orlando (1923) and Alyssa's personal account of transitioning gender. Images from the everyday, establish a familiar tone towards the subject. In addition, found clips of animals, like the dissection of a starfish, a species that naturally changes gender, symbolise the biological normality of the fluid nature of gender.
From A to B sits as an open ended exploration of the alchemical perspective applied to issues of gender: one concerned with transmutations, the action of changing or the state of being changed into another form.
